Attorney Brehm Bell announces college scholarship for a 2024 Hancock County senior pursuing a law-related career

Updated: Mar 18

For the past nine years, local attorney Brehm Bell has helped encourage high school graduates to enter the field of law by offering a personally-funded scholarship to a senior from Hancock County, MS.

The Brehm Bell Scholarship is a $1000 one-time award to a high school senior who is planning on pursuing a degree in any law-related field. Both public and private high school applicants are asked to submit applications no later than Friday, April 26, 2024.

“The practice of law is a noble profession that allows you to make a living helping people in their search for justice,” said Bell. “Our legal system and insurance processes are difficult for people to navigate sometimes. We need bright, compassionate minds to enter the field of law to continue helping people have a voice.”

An attorney in downtown Bay St. Louis since 1995, Bell worked as a deckhand on tugboats in order to pay for his education at University of Mississippi Law School. He graduated in 1989 and began work as an attorney in Meridian. After five years, he decided to move his family back home to Hancock County and build his law practice here, focusing solely on personal injury cases.

To be considered for the scholarship, seniors should obtain an application from their school counselor or by emailing BZ@brehmbell.com. Applicants may also pick up a form at Bell's office, located at 544 Main Street in Bay St. Louis, or apply online. A minimum GPA of 3.0, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and a brief 200-word essay are required.

Please submit application in full by the April 26, 2024 deadline by emailing BZ@brehmbell.com or by mailing to:
