Have you checked out Hancock County's new used bookstore?

Tucked into the main branch of the Hancock County Library System - on Hwy 90 in Bay St. Louis - is another reason we love our coastal community. My wife Jenny and I volunteer there, just two in the mix of dozens of locals who staff the book store, aptly named the Second Line Used Bookstore.

At our helm is the enthusiastic Sally Isaacs, who also serves as the Chair of the library's Foundation. The books are donated and then very reasonably priced, organized and offered for purchase in a cozy bookstore setting - minus the cat and coffee. Money from sales goes directly to The Library Foundation of Hancock County to help provide services and programs in our five branches.
The store is organized, much like the library, into easy to navigate sections of non-fiction and fiction, from self-help to cookbooks, from classics to the latest thrillers. There are sections for children, DVDs, CDs, games and even a puzzle tower to select your next jigsaw. There's also a rare finds section, with some collectible, rare and sometimes signed books - higher priced but still a steal for the right collector.
The Second Line Used Bookstore opened in February 2026 and is already gaining steam as a place to explore and discover your next read. Affordable and friendly, it's a nice way to recycle your old books, buy something new and support your local library. Stop by and see us - Jenny or I are there most Thursday mornings, 10-12. You can find out store hours, how to donate or volunteer and more here.
